About the event
Mrs. Hawke Goes West, a radio play by AWGIE nominee Phil Sanders, will be staged live at the Victorian era theatre and entertainment venue Keystone 1889 for one show only on Saturday 30th September 2023.
This 1920s murder mystery tells the tale of Lizzie Hawke, a widowed ex-nursing colleague of Agatha Christie, who leaves Sydney to become a housekeeper in Bathurst, and finds that life in the bush isn’t as tranquil as she expected.
She’s quickly embroiled in murder case, finding herself helping the police as they investigate mysterious goings-on at the local hospital.
Presented as a complete night’s entertainment, the audience will enjoy a dinner and the show, with a dessert and show option also offered by the venue.
The play is the first of a series written by Bathurst resident Phil Sanders, whose experience includes writing for many Australian television serials such as Home and Away, All Saints and Blinky Bill’s Around the World Adventure. Phil's play, "Just A Song At Twilight" recently enjoyed a successful run at Keystone.
Performed by Bathurst Theatre Company and directed by producer Bryan Cutts, the show will be presented in the style of the golden era of the original radio drama. Music and sound effects will accompany the Bathurst actors.
